The Sounders went through a full scrimmage today at practice, and by far the most important thing was that two injured players appeared to make it through with no issues.
Both Will Bruin and Victor Rodriguez fully participated in the scrimmage and didn’t look to have suffered any problems. Whether that means that both are in line to start is probably a premature thought though; Rodriguez specifically hasn’t played this year yet, but the fact they were able to train in full is undoubtedly a good sign.
Brian Schmetzer said in his post game interview that he expects both to feature, but wouldn’t go into any details on the roles each would play. Both would provide big boosts; Schmetzer noted in particular that the dynamism of Rodriguez would be a particular bonus.
Schmetzer confirmed reports that Handwalla Bwana will be out for some time with his injury; there is no timetable for his return at this point. Hopefully we’ll get a more definite timeline shortly, but it’s obviously a big blow for the promising prospect. Jordan Morris made his second consecutive appearance, and continues his rehabilitation.
Beyond that it was a lively scrimmage, and the players were definitely a bit chippy (“ornery” is how Schmetzer put it), as we could hear them getting on each other a bit. Three points this weekend would certainly lighten the mood.
