There was a big group out for practice today, as some Academy and Sounders 2 players had the opportunity to train with the senior team. There was a lively full field 11 v 11 scrimmage, with what could be considered the first team versus reserves and backups.
One thing that was interesting to note was the performance of Harry Shipp. It’s pretty clear that his recent performances have boosted his standing and confidence. He looked extremely confident, spraying quality balls all over the field, and providing solid defensive play. He said as much in his interview after practice, noting that he feels he’s been rewarded for his improved training and is feeling confident about his ability to contribute. He also mentioned that while he was injured, he did a rethink about how he could best contribute to the team, which has helped him stand out and grab the opportunity when presented.
Kelvin Leerdam, Felix Chenkam and Lamar Neagle continue to work their way back from their injuries. Jordan McCrary got most of the time at right back in practice as expected. He mentioned in his interview how helpful Leerdam has been to him and his development, and is ready to show he can perform while Leerdam is out.
The only other thing of note was that Nicholas Lodeiro and Victor Rodriguez weren’t out training, but I believe they are doing work inside or getting a bit of an extra break, as they are coming back from the pre-World Cup camp and injury, respectively. The team has the day off tomorrow, but will be back at it on Thursday.
