I wasn’t going to write anything up today (recovering from yesterday’s chaos), but looking at the schedule, this is the last Sounders practice before they take off for Orlando. So, it’s probably a good time for an update.
Those players who had been on the shelf with injuries continue to make their way back. Harry Shipp and Brad Smith are definitely getting close, though I’d estimate neither is in line to play against Orlando on Wednesday. There is no way to sugarcoat things: The team will be thin for the Wednesday game. Nicholas Lodeiro, Raul Ruidiaz, Gustav Svensson and Jordy Delem will all be out, and with Shipp and Smith still recovering, Coach Brian Schmetzer will have to be creative.
Cristian Roldan said he is preparing to be deployed where the team needs him, whether that is a center-mid or on the wing. “I haven’t played center-mid in about two or three months,” Roldan said. “I have to get back into the swing of things, and getting pressure from all different angles.”
Aside from the injuries and call-ups, the team seems to be in good spirits after two games scoring four goals. “I still think we need to take more chances, but be solid defensively,” Roldan said.
Jordan Morris update:
Not much has changed, but he was involved with shooting drills with the team, as he continues to shake the rust off and strengthen his leg, as well as build fitness.
Also, he’s working on his running and cutting, which is an important step in recovery.
That’s it for the time being. Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
